Karhold Mountain Range
The Karhold Mountain Range along the eastern coast of the continent is the primary home of the dwarves. Originally, the mountains had room aplenty for two different clans of dwarves, the Cairnhewers and the Thaneholts. However, with the fall of Bael Turath, the northern reaches of the range became a dark and dangerous place, driving the Cairnhewers south into the remainder of the range. The Thaneholts, understanding the disaster that had befallen their cousins, initially welcomed them, and the two clans integrated readily. After the Theft of the Throne, however, relations between the two clans soured, with both clans blaming the other for the loss. The Cairnhewers returned north, while the Thaneholts consolidated themselves in the southern reaches. However, the generations of intermingling resulted in many individuals who cross clan lines, who have found themselves in a potentially dangerous situation.
Recently, humans have made their way to the Karholds as well, to work the rich veins of metals found within. Including gold, high-quality iron, and even occasional mithril deposits, the mountains have become an important resource to the people of the Platinum Empire, and indeed, the Imperial Army relies upon the mines for the raw materials for weapons and armor.
At the far side of the mountain range, small pockets of Niridan workers can be found; these workers negotiate with the Cairnhewers, and have established a tentative supply line to their homeland oversea, bypassing the ruins.
